Somalilandsun - It is firm, final, and binding: Eritrea President Isias Afareki does not recognize the Government of Somalia. With that, the President has dispelled media reports to the contrary and put to rest his UN Agent's attempts to bamboozle VOA radio and the UN Security Council into believing Eritrea President recognizes the government of Somalia.
Eritrea President made this his defiant stance viz à viz the government of Somalia known to the rest of the world in response to an inquiry of local actors of his propaganda tv station, EriTV, 6-8 Sep. 2013.
Wagging his finger, the President told the nation and the world at large emphatically that he does not recognize but only deals with and treats the current government of Somalia no different than its predecessors, the likes of Abdi Qasim Salad, Abdulahi Yousuf, Sheikh Sherif, or those in Puntland, Hargeisa, or even other individuals in Somalia. The President also submitted that Somalia, whose 5-edged star bearing flag is flying high at UN Headquarters, does not exist! To hear all this from the President's mouth live,

What he said is whether we recognise it ir not is not relevant. Who are we to recognise Somalia or not? Somalia as we know it with its 5 star flag which is a member of the AU and UN does not exist territorially. If some one is to recognize Somalia, it should be with whole territorial integrity of Somalia. But now Somalia is fragmented, as neighbor we work with all Somalians so that Somalia is reconstituted in its former glory. Otherwise, recognizing Somalia without its territorial integrity is meaningless. Our recognition of Somalia should be seen in this context. Geographically Somalia is fragmented because external forces are given opportunity to pursue their interest taking opportunity of its internal problems.

I don't think any sane person can disagree with the views of the president of Eritrea. Somalis and Eritreans are one people who understand each other very well. Eritreans want to see a strong and united Somalia.

@Asmara,
Basically the Eriterian President Isaias Afwerki is absolutely right in the sense that after the Military Govt of Somalia collapsed and became defunct in 1991, in the aftermath to this day,time and age, there has been functioning sovereign State Govts and the FGS that came into power in Sept 2012 is virtually in the worst abyss!. In this sense, President Isaias Is 100% positive in his statement. The only thing that makes commonsense is that in 1960, 2star
AL-Somaal out of 5star AL-Somaal joined into unified partnership amalgamation
which from day one didn't work well and eventually failed into dissolution in 1991. President Isaias Afwerki like his old comrade Ato Meles Zenawi, clearly knows the freedom fighting victories of the TPLF,EPLF,SNM and the different positions of Asmara,Addisababa,Hargeisa,Mog adiscio???
Cheers.

The Eritrean tyrant is known for his saber rattling bizarre behavior. Although he feigns to look progressive and pragmatic the tyrant has taken the young nation into abyss. In addition to the hundreds of thousands who have continued abandoning the nation to Ethiopia, Sudan, and to just anywhere risking their lives to the shoot to kill order, many of the prominent Eritreans who fought in the struggle are languishing and dying in prison without due process. Instead of working to meet the immediate and basic needs of his people, many say the cruel Eritrean tyrant has the habit of inflating himself to meddle in unrelated issues.

Who need Eritrea's approval or recognition for the existence of proud Somalia,

Eritrea is't self is under United Nation sanctions, and I am not surprise that even if the Eritrean president supports the Opposition of the Somali Government

Recognition and approval are different. Recognition is to work with the central government of Somalia as legitimate representative of Somalia. Approval is to give legitimacy to the government. Approval is up to the Somalis. I am not his big fan, but actually he said Somalian issues should be left to Somalis. Anyway, everybody in Eritrea knows that Somalis are proud people. Regardless of their current political situation, they walk tall and proud. I have never meet any Somali who doesn't proudly say that he is Somali. Personally, I long to see strong Somalia.

logic would tell you let it fragment lets the fragments develop and hold there own, once doing that may be the 5star's can choose to come back together one day. the way we are now brothers and sisters is not working why somalia wants to hold on to a dream when it cant control its capital joke, right now our its true the instability countries around us have profited from the somali failed state.

The Eritrean leader's agenda is to weaken the Ethiopian government. He is using Somalia in a proxy war with Ethiopia. He is a warmonger who should be shunned by all Somalis and peoples of the Horn of Africa.
